Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about injection mold manufacturing
What is the typical lead time for a new injection mold?
For a standard precision injection mold, lead time ranges from 25 to 45 days depending on complexity. Simple two-plate molds can be completed in 3-4 weeks, while multi-slide, hot runner molds with tight tolerances may take 6-8 weeks. We provide a detailed timeline in our DFM report before production begins.
What information do you need to provide a mold quotation?
We need: 1) 3D model (STEP/IGES format preferred), 2) Annual volume requirements, 3) Material specification, 4) Surface finish requirements, 5) Any specific gate or ejection preferences. If you don't have a full 3D model, we can work from 2D drawings or samples.
Do you offer mold design services if I only have a part concept?
Yes. Our engineering team can design the part for manufacturability and then design the mold. We provide full DFM (Design for Manufacturing) analysis, Moldflow simulation, and 3D mold drawings for customer approval before cutting steel.
What materials do you use for mold construction?
We use premium tool steels including: S136 / 420SS (stainless, for optical/lens molds), H13 (hot work steel, for high-cavity-pressure molds), 8407 / DIEVAR (for high-temperature and high-wear applications), NAK80 (pre-hardened, for quick-turn projects), and P20 (for prototype and low-volume molds). All components meet HASCO, DME, or MISUMI standards.
Do you provide samples before mass production?
Absolutely. We provide T1 (first trial) samples with a full dimensional inspection report. Any adjustments needed are made and T2 samples are provided until the customer approves. Only after sample approval do we proceed to production.
What quality certifications do you have?
We are ISO 9001:2015 certified. Our quality control process includes: incoming material inspection, in-process inspection during CNC/EDM machining, CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) final inspection, hardness testing, surface finish measurement, and mold function test before shipment.
What is the warranty on your molds?
We offer a standard 12-month warranty or 500,000 injection cycles, whichever comes first. This covers manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship. We also provide technical support throughout the life of the mold.
Do you ship molds internationally?
Yes, we export to customers in North America, Europe, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East. Molds are carefully packed in wooden crates with rust-proofing treatment. We ship via air freight (3-7 days) or sea freight (15-30 days) depending on your timeline and budget.
Can you make revisions to an existing mold?
Yes, we provide mold modification and repair services including: gate position changes, cooling system modifications, cavity texturing/engraving, steel replacement for worn cavities, and conversion from cold runner to hot runner.
What is the minimum order quantity for mold manufacturing?
We typically require a minimum of one mold set per project. Unlike injection molding production (which has minimum order quantities), mold manufacturing is a custom engineering project, so even a single mold is acceptable.
